Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani has pushed back against claims that Tehran is being pressured to resume diplomatic talks with the United States in the wake of the killing of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani. Larijani dismissed the reports, insisting that Iran's position on negotiations with the US remains unchanged.
Soleimani, the commander of Iran's elite Quds Force, was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad on January 3, 2020, an act that brought Iran and the US to the brink of war. In the aftermath, some US media outlets reported that Tehran was facing renewed pressure to return to the negotiating table with Washington.
