Iran Denies Negotiations Amid Envoy Contact Confirmation

Iran's Foreign Minister confirms contact with US envoy Witkoff, but denies any ongoing negotiations between the two countries.
Tehran, Iran - In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Araghchi confirmed that there has been contact between Iranian officials and the US envoy Robert Witkoff. However, Araghchi firmly denied that any negotiations are currently underway between the two countries.
Araghchi's statement comes amidst ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, which have escalated in recent years following the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The two countries have engaged in a war of words and sanctions, with each side accusing the other of hostile actions in the region.
Clarifying Iran's Position
In the interview, Araghchi sought to clarify Iran's position, stating, "There are contacts between Iran and the United States, but there are no negotiations underway." He emphasized that any potential future negotiations would require the US to first lift the crippling sanctions it has imposed on Iran since withdrawing from the JCPOA.
