Iran's Priceless Heritage Sites Endangered by Military Strikes

Escalating tensions between Iran and the West have put the country's invaluable cultural treasures at grave risk. Experts warn of devastating damage to historic landmarks.
Iran's vast cultural heritage, built up over millennia, is under threat from the ongoing military conflict between the country and the United States and Israel. Some of Iran's most famous and historically significant sites have already sustained damage from airstrikes and other attacks, raising concerns among archaeologists and preservationists about the potential for irreparable harm.
The ancient city of Persepolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the jewels of Persian civilization, has reportedly suffered damage to its intricate stone carvings and bas-reliefs. Shahr-e Sukhteh, an archaeological site in southeastern Iran dating back to the 3rd millennium BC, has also been hit, with reports of craters and destruction of ancient structures.
