Sardar Azmoun, Iran's star striker, has been left out of the national team's upcoming World Cup warmup games amid reports of his perceived disloyalty to the government.
Sardar Azmoun, Iran's star striker, has been omitted from the national team's squad announced for two World Cup warmup games in March, sparking speculation of a rift between the player and the government.
Azmoun, who has scored 57 goals in 91 internationals, was the most notable absentee from the 35-man squad named by head coach Amir Ghalenoei for friendlies against Nigeria and Costa Rica in the Turkish city of Antalya.
