Iran's Revolutionary Guards launch missiles at US and Israeli forces in the Middle East, as disruptions to global fertilizer supply threaten food scarcity and price hikes.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards have claimed responsibility for launching missile strikes on US and Israeli military bases across the Gulf region, including in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain. The attacks came in retaliation for the US administration's recent 15-point plan for re-engaging with Tehran, which was widely seen as an attempt to appease the Iranian regime.
The strikes have prompted a sharp drop in global crude oil prices, as the threat of escalating conflict in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz looms large. A third of the world's fertilizers normally transit the strait, which has been virtually closed by Iran since the start of the war, raising concerns about potential food scarcity and price hikes worldwide.
