Tehran, Iran - In a defiant stance against the United States, a senior member of Iran's Expediency Council has declared that the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global maritime chokepoint, will not be reopened to American ships. This move further escalates the ongoing tensions between the two nations, which have been simmering since the US withdrawal from the landmark nuclear deal in 2018.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is of critical strategic importance, as it is the conduit for a significant portion of the world's oil and gas exports.
