Iraq Urges Australia to Repatriate Alleged IS Fighters

Iraqi national security adviser calls on Australia to take back suspected Islamic State prisoners amid growing regional instability.
Iraq's national security adviser Qassim al-Araji has implored Australia to repatriate a group of suspected Islamic State fighters, raising the issue directly with Canberra's top diplomat in Baghdad. This request comes just weeks after the detainees were transferred out of Syria.
In a post on social media, al-Araji stated that he met with Australian ambassador Glenn Miles last week, and told him that foreign detainees should be returned to their home countries. This appeal is made more challenging by the growing instability in the region, which has been exacerbated by the ongoing war in Iran.
