Israel Warned of Hezbollah Threat Before Airstrikes, Leaked Memo Shows

Newly uncovered US embassy cable reveals Israel had doubts about Lebanon and Syria's ability to contain Hezbollah, leading to aerial attacks.
Israel had warned the United States about the growing threat of Hezbollah before launching a series of aerial attacks against the group, according to a leaked US embassy cable. The internal assessment indicates that Israeli officials doubted the Lebanese state could effectively disarm Hezbollah even before the recent military operations began.
The cable shows that on the eve of the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, Israeli officials had informed Washington that Hezbollah was rapidly reconstituting its military capabilities faster than the Lebanese armed forces could degrade them. It stated that neither Beirut nor Damascus could be trusted to contain the threat posed by the group along Israel's northern borders.
