Jeff Bezos Unveils Plan for Massive Space-Based Data Center Network

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos files to launch up to 51,600 satellites for Project Sunrise, a new constellation aimed at powering global AI data centers.
In a bold move that challenges Elon Musk's plans for a SpaceX-powered data center network in space, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has announced an ambitious proposal to launch his own megaconstellation of satellites. Dubbed Project Sunrise, Bezos' filing with the Federal Communications Commission outlines a plan for up to 51,600 satellites operating in Sun-synchronous orbits at altitudes ranging from 500 to 1,800 km.
Bezos' space company, Blue Origin, argues that traditional terrestrial AI-based data centers will soon face significant challenges in scaling up to meet the ever-growing computing demands of the modern world. By establishing a network of space-based data centers, Project Sunrise aims to provide a revolutionary solution that can deliver always-on, global computing power.
