The plan, which is still in the development stage, involves slashing the number of foreign workers across various sectors, including manufacturing, construction, and services. This shift in policy is driven by a desire to boost employment opportunities for Malaysian citizens and address perceived imbalances in the labor market.
"The government wants to reduce the reliance on foreign workers and create more job opportunities for Malaysians," said Arman Abdul Razak, a senior researcher at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies in Kuala Lumpur. "However, there are concerns that this could lead to a shortage of skilled labor and hurt certain industries that depend on foreign expertise."
