Man Shot by ICE Faces 'Assault' Charges: FBI Arrests Controversial Case

Controversial case as California man Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, shot in the face by ICE agents, is now arrested and charged with 'assault' on a federal officer.
Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, a 36-year-old California man who was shot by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in April, has now been arrested by the FBI and charged with assault on a federal officer.
The incident occurred on 7 April in Patterson, a rural town in California's central valley roughly 80 miles south-east of San Francisco. Mendoza Hernandez was reportedly hit by more than six bullets, including in the face, according to his attorney.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been accused of making false and misleading statements about the shooting and the events leading up to it. Authorities claim Mendoza Hernandez assaulted the ICE agents, but his lawyer disputes this account.
