A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake has rocked the Molucca Sea region near Indonesia, triggering fears of a potentially devastating tsunami. The quake, which occurred at a depth of 30 kilometers (18 miles), was centered about 134 kilometers (83 miles) southeast of the city of Ternate in North Maluku province.
The initial earthquake was followed by several strong aftershocks, further heightening concerns among local residents and authorities. Indonesia's geophysics agency immediately issued a tsunami warning, urging people living in coastal areas to seek higher ground.
