Massive Solar Power Project Energizes Bassingbourn Barracks

New ground-breaking solar array at Bassingbourn Barracks to power British Army base with clean, renewable energy
In a major step forward for renewable energy adoption within the British military, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, working in partnership with Custom Solar, has broken ground on a new, state-of-the-art solar array at Bassingbourn Barracks. This innovative solar energy project aims to harness the power of the sun to provide clean, sustainable electricity for the Army base, reducing its carbon footprint and leading the way towards a greener, more environmentally-conscious future.
The ground-breaking ceremony, held at the site, marked the official commencement of construction for the expansive solar panel installation, which is set to become one of the largest renewable energy projects within the UK's defence infrastructure. Once completed, the array will span multiple acres, featuring thousands of highly-efficient photovoltaic cells designed to capture the sun's energy and convert it into usable electricity to power the Bassingbourn Barracks facilities.
