Media Merger Milestone: FCC Greenlights Nexstar-Tegna Deal

The FCC has approved the acquisition of Tegna's TV stations by Nexstar Media, creating a broadcasting giant with 259 stations across 44 states.
In a landmark decision, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has given the green light to the merger of two major local television station owners, Nexstar Media Group and Tegna. This merger, valued at $5.4 billion, will create a media powerhouse with an expansive footprint, owning a total of 259 television stations across 44 states.
The approval of this deal marks a significant shift in the local television landscape, as the combined company will now have a dominant presence in markets across the United States. The merger will allow Nexstar to strengthen its position as a leading provider of local news, sports, and entertainment content, delivering an even more robust lineup of programming to viewers nationwide.
"This transaction will allow Nexstar to better serve our local communities and expand our network of superior local programming," said Perry Sook, Nexstar's chairman and chief executive officer. The deal is expected to create significant synergies and cost savings, which the company believes will benefit both shareholders and consumers.
