Mega New Delhi Airport Set to Take Flight: Soaring Passenger Numbers Ahead

The highly anticipated Jewar International Airport near New Delhi is poised to become a major aviation hub, with the potential to handle up to 70 million passengers annually once fully operational.
The long-awaited Jewar International Airport, located in the Uttar Pradesh state near New Delhi, is set to be inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This new airport is expected to become a significant aviation hub, capable of handling up to 70 million passengers per year once it reaches full operational capacity.
The Jewar Airport, also known as the Noida International Airport, will serve as an alternative to the congested Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The new airport is strategically situated in the rapidly growing Noida-Greater Noida region, which has become a hub for technology companies and IT startups. This location is expected to drive increased air travel demand from both business and leisure travelers.
According to the Airports Authority of India, the Jewar Airport will be developed in multiple phases, with the first phase set to be operational by 2024. Once completed, the airport will boast four runways and the capacity to handle up to 70 million passengers annually, making it one of the largest airports in India.
The construction of the Jewar Airport is a significant investment in India's infrastructure, costing an estimated $3.1 billion. The project is being developed by the Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a joint venture between the Swiss-based Zurich Airport International AG and Indian conglomerate Adani Group.
The new airport is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the region's economy, creating thousands of jobs and driving increased investment in the surrounding areas. It will also help alleviate the burden on the Indira Gandhi International Airport, which has been operating at near-full capacity for several years.
Prime Minister Modi's inauguration of the Jewar Airport marks a significant milestone in India's ambitious plans to expand its aviation infrastructure and cater to the growing air travel demand. As the country continues to experience rapid economic growth and urbanization, the Jewar Airport is poised to play a crucial role in supporting India's future transportation and connectivity needs.
