Mexican Drug Lord 'El Mencho' Taken Down in Daring Raid

Authorities in Mexico finally track down and eliminate the elusive leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, a notorious drug trafficking organization.
El Mencho, the leader of Mexico's fearsome Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), has been killed in a dramatic confrontation with security forces. The long-sought kingpin, whose real name was Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, had evaded capture for years as his cartel became one of the most powerful and violent in the country.
The operation that led to El Mencho's demise unfolded over several days in the rugged mountains of the western state of Nayarit. Acting on a tip, Mexican marines and federal police surrounded a rural safehouse where the cartel boss was believed to be hiding. In the ensuing firefight, El Mencho and several of his bodyguards were killed.
