Mexico Rejects 'Diplomatic Crisis' With Spain Over Conquest Dispute

Mexico's president denies any diplomatic tensions with Spain after a row over the Spanish colonization of Mexico, stating there were never any tensions over the historical issue.
Mexico's president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has firmly denied the existence of any diplomatic crisis with Spain following a row over the Spanish colonization of the country. The issue had become a thorny one, but López Obrador insists there were never any tensions between the two nations.
The dispute began when López Obrador wrote a letter to Spain's King Felipe VI and Pope Francis, requesting an apology for the "abuses" committed during the Spanish conquest of Mexico in the 16th century. This sparked a backlash from the Spanish government, which rejected the request and described it as "inappropriate".
