Monzo's Controversial Year-End Reviews: Empowering or Humiliating?

Digital bank Monzo faces backlash over 'shaming' spending summaries, as users complain about insensitive language and inappropriate use of personal data.
Monzo, the digital bank, has come under fire for the tone and content of its year-end spending summaries, with some customers accusing the company of overstepping boundaries and using personal data in a way that is inappropriate and even humiliating.
One customer, who has a history of eating disorders, complained to the financial ombudsman after Monzo's review told her that she eats a lot of fast food, spends more than most on Just Eat takeaways, and had abandoned her life goals due to her spending choices. This language, the customer argued, was inappropriate and shaming.
