Moonbound: NASA Leads the Way as Military Joins the Space Race

NASA's Artemis II mission marks a historic return to the Moon, with military personnel playing a vital role. Discover how the US military is poised to join the lunar exploration efforts.
As the world eagerly awaits the launch of NASA's Artemis II mission, the space agency is once again leading the charge to the Moon. But this time, the US military won't be far behind, as it plays an increasingly integral role in the nation's lunar exploration efforts.
The Artemis II mission, set to depart from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, will be the first crewed flight to the Moon since the Apollo era. Onboard the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft will be a four-person crew, two of whom have a military background as Navy test pilots.
Commander Reid Wiseman and pilot Victor Glover will be at the controls, drawing on their extensive experience in the skies to guide the spacecraft to its lunar destination. Joining them will be NASA astronaut Christina Koch and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, rounding out the diverse crew.
