New $15,000 Visa Bond Requirement Targets 12 Countries

In a controversial move aimed at further restricting legal immigration to the United States, the Trump administration has announced a new $15,000 visa bond requirement for applicants from 12 additional countries. The requirement, set to take effect on April 12, will impact citizens of those nations who are seeking temporary visitor visas, including for tourism and business travel.
The targeted countries are largely African nations with historically high rates of visa overstays, according to Department of Homeland Security data. This includes Angola, Burundi, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Guinea-Bissau, Iran, Laos, Liberia, Libya, Sudan, and Zimbabwe.
