New Hampshire Faces Prediction Market Challenge as Sports Betting Booms

As online sports betting surges, New Hampshire and other states are grappling with the rise of new prediction market platforms that are eating into their gambling revenue.
Sports betting has exploded in popularity in recent years, with more and more states legalizing the activity. In New Hampshire, as well as other states with legalized sports gambling, this wagering helps to fund important government services. However, the state now faces a new challenge: the emergence of prediction market platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket, which are drawing bettors away from traditional sportsbooks.
These new platforms allow users to wager on a wide range of outcomes, from the results of political elections to the likelihood of specific events occurring. While not technically classified as sports betting, these prediction markets are seen by officials as a direct competitor to state-sanctioned gambling operations.
