New Smart Meter Regulations Unlock Savings for Consumers

Tough new rules force energy suppliers to swiftly repair faulty smart meters, reducing waiting times and delivering cost savings for households.
Smart meters have been a key part of the UK's effort to modernize the energy grid and empower consumers to better manage their usage. However, the rollout has been plagued by technical issues, with many consumers facing lengthy delays to get their faulty meters repaired. Now, new regulations are set to change that, placing stricter obligations on energy suppliers to fix smart meter problems more quickly.
Under the new rules, suppliers will be required to resolve smart meter faults within a much tighter timeframe - just 30 working days, down from the previous standard of 90 days. This is a significant improvement that will dramatically reduce the waiting time for households dealing with smart meter problems. The faster turnaround is expected to result in substantial savings for consumers, as they will no longer be stuck paying for energy they can't accurately monitor or control due to a malfunctioning device.
