The latest penalties come as part of the Trump administration's so-called 'maximum pressure' campaign against Tehran, which has intensified in recent months.
The new sanctions imposed by the US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designate several entities and individuals connected to the transport of Iranian oil. This includes five Iranian ship captains who reportedly oversaw the delivery of oil cargoes from Iran to Venezuela.
