NHS Pauses Hormone Treatments for Under-18s Amid Lack of Evidence

NHS England halts new referrals for masculinizing or feminizing hormone treatments for 16 and 17-year-olds, citing insufficient evidence to support the use of these therapies.
NHS England has announced a pause on new referrals for masculinizing or feminizing hormone treatments in under-18s after an in-depth review found a lack of evidence to support the continued use of these therapies for 16 and 17-year-olds with gender incongruence or gender dysphoria.
Previously, prescriptions for hormones had been available in England for under-18s who met certain criteria and had received a diagnosis of gender incongruence or gender dysphoria. However, the recent review has prompted the NHS to pause new referrals for these treatments, pending further evaluation and research.
