North Korea Lavishes Red Carpet Welcome for Belarus Leader

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un rolls out the red carpet for Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, as both leaders deepen their ties with Russia amid Western criticism.
Pyongyang, North Korea - In a display of diplomatic pomp, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un rolled out the red carpet for Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko in an extravagant welcome ceremony in the capital city of Pyongyang. The rare visit by the Belarusian leader underscores the growing alliance between the two nations, both of which have faced international criticism and sanctions over their close ties to Russia.
As Lukashenko's motorcade arrived at Pyongyang's airport, he was greeted by a military honor guard, marching bands, and thousands of cheering North Korean citizens waving flags. The two leaders then inspected the troops together before heading to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the mausoleum where the bodies of North Korea's founding leader Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il are displayed.
