Octogenarian Reunited with Family After ICE Detention in Alabama

An 85-year-old French woman detained by ICE amid an inheritance dispute has been released and returned to France, the French Foreign Affairs Minister has confirmed.
Marie-Thérèse Ross-Mahé, an 85-year-old French woman, has been released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody and returned to France, according to the country's Foreign Affairs Minister. Ross-Mahé was arrested in Alabama last year amid an inheritance dispute, sparking international outrage and raising concerns about the treatment of elderly immigrants.
The octogenarian came to the United States in 2021 after reconnecting with and marrying a former U.S. G.I. she had met decades ago. However, her joyful reunion was short-lived, as she soon found herself entangled in a complex legal battle over a family inheritance.
According to reports, Ross-Mahé's arrest was part of a larger dispute involving her late husband's estate. The French Foreign Affairs Ministry intervened, working tirelessly to secure her release and ensure her safe return to her home country.
