Ongoing Human Rights Violations Plague Venezuela, UN Report Finds

A UN fact-finding mission warns of persistent human rights abuses in Venezuela, as the 'machinery' of repression continues to evolve, underscoring the nation's dire human rights crisis.
Venezuela's human rights crisis shows no signs of abating, according to a new report from a United Nations fact-finding mission. In an address to the UN Human Rights Council, the experts warned that the 'machinery' of repression in the country was 'mutating,' with ongoing violations and abuses continuing to plague the nation.
The three-member mission, established by the UN Human Rights Council in 2019, has been investigating extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions and torture in Venezuela since its inception. In their latest findings, the experts detailed a litany of human rights violations, underscoring the entrenched and evolving nature of the crisis.
