Palestinian Activist Freed After Year in Immigration Detention

Leqaa Kordia, a Columbia University student known for her pro-Palestinian advocacy, was released from immigration custody after being detained for overstaying her student visa. Her lawyer claims she was targeted for her activism.
In a victory for civil liberties and free speech advocates, Leqaa Kordia, a Palestinian-American student at Columbia University, has been released from immigration detention after spending over a year in custody. Kordia, who was known for her vocal support of the Palestinian cause on campus, was detained by federal officials for allegedly overstaying her student visa.
Kordia's lawyer, Tamar Levi, has long maintained that her client was specifically targeted for her pro-Palestinian activism and political views, rather than any legitimate immigration violation.
