Paris Mayoral Race: Veteran Socialist Set to Triumph

Longtime city hall insider Emmanuel Grégoire projected to defeat conservative Rachida Dati, as Marseille's leftist mayor holds lead
In a significant political shift, the veteran Socialist politician Emmanuel Grégoire is poised to become the next mayor of Paris, according to early projections from Sunday's election. Grégoire, who has a long track record at city hall, is set to defeat the former rightwing minister Rachida Dati, marking a clear victory for the left after 25 years of center-right governance in the French capital.
Grégoire, who is running on a united left-wing ticket including the Greens, is projected to have won around 53% of the vote, a comfortable margin over Dati, who served in government under both Emmanuel Macron and Nicolas Sarkozy. Dati had sought to return the city to the right after over two decades of left-wing rule.
