Pentagon Barred Journalists, Court Demands Restoration of Access

A federal judge has ruled that the US Defense Department must restore journalists' unfettered access to the Pentagon, after new restrictions limited their ability to enter the building.
In a significant victory for press freedom, a federal judge has ordered the US Defense Department to comply with previous directives and restore journalists' unrestricted access to the Pentagon. The ruling comes after the Pentagon implemented new rules that have severely limited reporters' ability to enter the building without an escort.
The case was brought by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, which argued that the Pentagon's actions violated the First Amendment rights of journalists. The committee asserted that the new restrictions, which require reporters to be accompanied by a public affairs officer, undermine the media's ability to conduct independent reporting and hold the government accountable.
