Post Office Introduces 8% Surcharge to Offset Rising Shipping Costs

The U.S. Postal Service will implement an 8% surcharge on deliveries to offset the increasing costs of transportation amid economic challenges from the ongoing Iran conflict.
In a move to offset the rising costs of transportation and fuel, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced plans to impose an 8% surcharge on all mail and package deliveries. The decision comes as the agency grapples with the economic fallout from the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has significantly impacted global supply chains and led to soaring fuel prices.
The USPS, which delivers to roughly 168 million addresses across the United States, has seen its transportation expenses skyrocket in recent months, with the cost of diesel and other fuels reaching record highs. The agency, which is mandated by Congress to be self-sustaining, has little choice but to pass these increased costs on to its customers in the form of the new surcharge.
