Powerful Storm Forces Boston Globe to Miss Historic First Print Edition

A major winter storm shut down operations at The Boston Globe, leading to the newspaper's first missed print edition in its 150-year history. Editors had to quickly adapt to get crucial news to readers online.
In a historic first for The Boston Globe, a powerful winter storm forced the newspaper to miss its daily print edition, the first time the 150-year-old publication has failed to publish a physical paper in its storied history.
The storm, which dumped over a foot of snow across Massachusetts, caused widespread power outages and disrupted transportation, making it impossible for the Globe's printing press in Taunton to operate. With staff unable to safely travel to the printing facility, the newspaper had no choice but to publish solely online for the day.
Despite the unprecedented circumstances, Globe editors and reporters moved quickly to ensure readers received comprehensive coverage of the storm and its impacts through the newspaper's website and mobile app. "This is certainly a rare occurrence, but our team worked tirelessly to adapt and continue delivering the news our readers depend on," said Globe Editor Brian McGrory.
