Quad God Rises Again: Ilia Malinin Dominates World Championships After Olympic Setback

American figure skater Ilia Malinin, known as the 'Quad God', bounces back from Olympic disappointment to lead the World Championships after a stunning short program performance.
American figure skater Ilia Malinin, known as the 'Quad God' for his prowess with quadruple jumps, has staged a remarkable comeback at the 2023 World Championships in Prague. After a disastrous showing at the Winter Olympics earlier this year, Malinin has taken the lead in the short program, delivering a personal-best score of 111.29 points.
Malinin, now sporting a fresh new haircut, wowed the audience at the O2 Arena with a performance that showed he has put his Olympic disappointment firmly behind him. He opened his routine with a stunning quad flip, followed by a combination of a quad lutz and a triple toe loop. The only skater to have successfully landed a quad axel in competition, Malinin opted for a triple axel this time around.
