Rare 'Blood Moon' Eclipse to Captivate North America, Australia

Witness the stunning 'blood moon' total lunar eclipse on March 3rd, visible across North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Learn when and where to view this rare celestial event.
On the evening of March 3rd, sky-gazers across North America, Australia, and New Zealand will be treated to a rare and breathtaking celestial event - a total lunar eclipse, also known as a 'blood moon'. As the full moon passes through the Earth's shadow, it will take on a deep, coppery-red hue, creating a stunning visual display.
Astrophysicist Dr. Rebecca Allen of Swinburne University explains, "As the moon dips into the planet's shadow, it will change color to a deep and coppery red. This occurs because the Earth's atmosphere bends and refracts the sun's light, allowing only the longer, redder wavelengths to reach the moon's surface."
The best times to view the eclipse will vary depending on location, but the full event will be visible across much of the region. In Australia, the eclipse will begin around 10:04 PM in Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne, and end around 11:02 PM. In the United States, the eclipse will start around 3:44 AM on the East Coast and end around 6:30 AM, with the best viewing in the early morning hours.
