Rising Star 'Wreck-It Will' Sherman Shapes the Future of US Rugby

The hard-hitting Anthem RC lock Will Sherman, son of a former Cal Berkeley rugby champion, has his sights set on the US national team and the 2031 World Cup.
Will Sherman, the 22-year-old standout second-row forward for Anthem Rugby Carolina in Major League Rugby, may be the future of US rugby, but his roots are firmly planted in the game's American past. His father, Wade Sherman, was a member of the champion Cal Berkeley rugby team that included Mark Bingham, one of the Flight 93 passengers who fought their hijackers and prevented the plane from reaching its intended target in Washington on 9/11.
"There was a super old photo that my dad pulled up, and the first time I heard that story was from him," Sherman said. "He was like, 'That guy standing to my left is an American hero.'"

If the US national team, the Eagles, are to make a mark on their home World Cup in 2031, the hard-hitting Sherman could have a key role to play. His combination of size, strength, and technical prowess make him a force to be reckoned with on the pitch, and his deep connection to the game's history in the US gives him a unique perspective and drive to succeed.
"I grew up hearing stories about my dad's time at Cal and the legacy of that team," Sherman explained. "It's always been a source of inspiration for me, and I feel a responsibility to honor that history and help shape the future of rugby in America."

As the Eagles prepare for the 2031 World Cup, Sherman is poised to play a crucial role in their campaign. His combination of size, strength, and technical ability make him a dominant force in the second row, and his deep understanding of the game's history in the US gives him a unique perspective and drive to succeed.
"I know that the 2031 World Cup is a huge opportunity for us to showcase the growth and potential of rugby in the United States," Sherman said. "I'm honored to be a part of that journey, and I'm going to do everything I can to help the Eagles make their mark on the global stage."
