The California Supreme Court has ordered a county sheriff and gubernatorial candidate to pause his investigation into alleged election fraud, as legal challenges mount against his unauthorized seizure of over 500,000 ballots.
California's highest court has stepped in to rein in the actions of a rogue sheriff who seized more than half a million 2025 election ballots in an unauthorized investigation into alleged voter fraud. The California Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered Chad Bianco, the sheriff of Riverside County and a gubernatorial candidate, to halt his probe while the court reviews the legal challenges against his controversial ballot seizure.
The move comes after California Attorney General Rob Bonta argued that Bianco has no legal authority over election materials. A voting rights group has also filed a challenge against the sheriff's actions, which they say are destabilizing and pose a threat to the integrity of the electoral process.

Bianco, a Republican who has echoed former President Donald Trump's unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud, seized the ballots in late March, claiming he needed to investigate
