Rohingya Refugees Facing Food Assistance Cuts in Bangladesh Camps

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh camps will see their food aid slashed, sparking alarm in the desperate community.
Rohingya refugees trapped in Bangladesh camps are facing a devastating blow as their food assistance is set to be drastically reduced starting this week. The cutbacks, affecting hundreds of thousands of people, are raising alarm and concern throughout the increasingly desperate community.
The Rohingya crisis has been an ongoing humanitarian disaster, with over 1 million refugees fleeing Myanmar to seek shelter in the overcrowded camps of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. These refugees, who have endured unimaginable hardship, now face the prospect of even greater hardship as their access to essential food aid is diminished.

According to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the food rations provided to Rohingya refugees will be reduced by 17% starting on Wednesday, July 1st. This reduction comes as the WFP faces a funding shortfall, with only 54% of the required $215 million for the Rohingya refugee response secured so far this year.
The impact of these cuts will be severe, as the camps in Cox's Bazar are already plagued by malnutrition, food insecurity, and other health issues. Rohingya refugees, who have already endured unimaginable trauma, now face the prospect of even greater hardship and hunger.
