Rubio Pushes Allies to Address Strait of Hormuz Tensions at G7 Summit

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio set to urge allies to take action on rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz at the upcoming G7 foreign ministers' meeting in France.
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to press American allies to take a stronger stance on securing the Strait of Hormuz during a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in France this week. Rubio is slated to arrive in Le Bourget, France on Friday to attend the high-level gathering, where he will likely advocate for increased cooperation and security measures in the strategically vital waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, has become a source of heightened tensions in recent months. Iran, which controls the northern shore of the strait, has repeatedly threatened to disrupt or even block commercial shipping through the chokepoint, which is responsible for the transit of nearly a third of the world's seaborne oil.
