Seafarers Stranded in Hormuz: IMO Chief Sounds Alarm

International Maritime Organization leader warns of over 20,000 seafarers stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, unable to be insured or protected. Calls for urgent global action to address this growing humanitarian crisis.
Arsenio Dominguez, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has issued a dire warning about the plight of over 20,000 seafarers currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. This vital global shipping chokepoint has become a dangerous trap for merchant mariners, who face an increasingly uncertain and perilous future.
In a recent interview, Dominguez emphasized the grave risks these seafarers face, stating bluntly, "We can insure the ship, but we cannot insure a human life." This stark acknowledgment underscores the severity of the situation, as insurance companies and governments struggle to provide adequate protection for the trapped crews.
