David Ames, the convicted fraudster behind the infamous Harlequin timeshare scheme, is set to pay back £280,000 to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) as part of a recovery order. This marks the first time the SFO has successfully secured such an order against Ames, who defrauded thousands of investors through his scheme.
The Harlequin timeshare scandal was one of the biggest financial scams to hit the UK in recent years, with over £398 million lost by unsuspecting investors. Ames, the mastermind behind the scheme, was convicted of fraud in 2019 and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
