Sisters of Slain Officer Demand Justice: Plan to Sue Victoria Police

The sisters of Neal Thompson, a police officer killed by Dezi Freeman, plan to file a negligence lawsuit against Victoria police after the coronial inquest.
Sisters Dianne Thompson and Lois Kirk, the siblings of Neal Thompson, one of the two police officers shot dead by Dezi Freeman in Porepunkah last August, are planning to sue Victoria police for negligence. Their lawyer, Jeremy King, a police accountability specialist, confirmed the family's intention to bring the negligence claim against the police force after the conclusion of a coronial inquest into the officers' deaths.
The inquest, which has yet to be scheduled, will likely examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and the actions (or inactions) of the police department. The sisters feel that they "did not expect to feel invisible" after their brother's death, indicating their belief that the police failed in their duty to properly support the family in the aftermath.
