Sizzling Seas: California Braces for Prolonged Marine Heatwave

Alarming ocean temperatures off the California coast raise fears of disruption to marine ecosystems. Experts warn of a potential prolonged marine heatwave.
For more than a century, shoreline stations operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography have meticulously monitored water temperatures along the California coast. This year, their data is flashing a concerning warning sign.
Over the past three months, several of these stations have repeatedly recorded record-breaking daily high temperatures, with the La Jolla station registering temperatures a full 10°F above historical averages at one point last month.

These record-high ocean temperatures off the southern California coast have researchers worried about the potential for a prolonged marine heatwave that could disrupt the delicate balance of the region's marine ecosystems.
