Social Media Harms Children: Pinterest CEO Calls for Bans Under 16

Pinterest CEO advocates for government-enforced bans on social media for minors, citing risks to child well-being like those seen with tobacco and alcohol.
Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann is calling on governments to enact legislation that would ban social media access for users under the age of 16. Silbermann drew a parallel between social media and other age-restricted industries like tobacco and alcohol, arguing that children require similar protections.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Silbermann expressed growing concerns about the negative impacts of social media on young people's mental health and well-being. "We have to think of social media like we think of alcohol and tobacco," he said. "These are products that, if used the wrong way, can be very harmful, especially for young people."
