Sony Tackles AI-Generated 'Deepfake' Music Proliferation

Sony takes action against the surge of fake songs featuring its artists' music created using AI technology on streaming platforms.
In a move to combat the growing issue of AI-generated 'deepfake' music, Sony Music has taken steps to remove over 135,000 unauthorized tracks from streaming platforms that feature its artists' music. The proliferation of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology has enabled bad actors to create these fake songs, which are then uploaded to popular music services, misleading listeners and depriving artists of rightful royalties.

According to Sony, the company has been actively monitoring the spread of these deepfakes and has worked to have them taken down as soon as they are detected. 'The use of our artists' music in this way is unauthorized and deceptive to music fans,' a Sony spokesperson stated. 'We take this very seriously and will continue to aggressively pursue any unlawful use of our music.'
