Sri Lanka Denies US Request to Land Aircraft Amid Iran Tensions

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reveals the government denied a US request to land two aircraft at the Mattala airport just days before the US-Israel attack on Iran.
The government of Sri Lanka has denied a request from the United States to land two aircraft at the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, just days before the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake revealed the details of the request, which was made on February 26, during a press conference.
Dissanayake stated that the US had asked to use the Mattala airport, located in the southern region of Sri Lanka, as a landing site for two aircraft. However, the Sri Lankan government refused the request, citing concerns over the country's neutrality and the potential for involvement in international conflicts.
