Keir Starmer, the leader of the UK Labour Party, has welcomed the ceasefire in the Iran-Gulf conflict as he prepares to visit the region to meet with regional leaders. Starmer's trip to the Gulf is aimed at discussing efforts to support and sustain the ceasefire and work towards reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint.
According to Sarah Jones, the policing minister, Starmer's visit will have several key objectives. First, he will assess the work of UK personnel in the region, with a focus on protecting British interests, citizens, and allies. Additionally, Starmer will participate in discussions with around 40 countries that have been working to address the challenges in the Strait of Hormuz and find ways to restore normalcy to the shipping routes.
