Tenants Revolt Against Skyrocketing Rents and Landlord Greed

Rent strikes are on the rise as tenants fight back against corporate landlords and historic rent hikes. Explore the growing tenant organizing movement.
Across the United States, tenants are increasingly taking matters into their own hands as they face unaffordable rent increases and predatory landlord tactics. Rent strikes, a collective refusal to pay rent, have become a powerful tool for residents to push back against the corporate consolidation of the housing market and demand fair, accessible housing.
In south Minneapolis, community organizer Nadia Langley has been at the forefront of this movement, rallying her neighbors to protect their homes. Langley's union saw a sudden surge in interest two months ago, not due to worsening housing conditions, but rather in response to the arrival of thousands of federal immigration agents in the city. Many immigrant and minority residents were afraid to leave their homes, fearful of encountering the agents. To support their vulnerable neighbors, the community organized to provide food, aid, and alerts about agent sightings.
