Tensions Escalate: Palestinians in West Bank Protest Israeli Death Penalty Law

Palestinians in the West Bank have staged widespread protests and a general strike in response to a new Israeli death penalty law that would allow the death penalty for certain acts of terrorism. The call for the strike came from Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party, the dominant political faction in the Palestinian Authority.

The proposed Israeli law, which still needs to pass the Knesset (parliament), would make the death penalty mandatory for anyone convicted of a terror attack that leads to Israeli deaths. This marks a significant escalation in Israel's approach to dealing with Palestinian violence, as the death penalty has not previously been used.
