Tensions Escalate: US Calls for Global Cooperation in Securing Strait of Hormuz

Trump renews request for other nations to help secure vital oil transit route as Iran threatens retaliation for any attacks on its infrastructure.
President Donald Trump has once again called on other countries to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit route, stating that the US is willing to assist in these efforts. This comes amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran, as the latter has vowed to retaliate if its oil infrastructure is targeted.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, with an estimated one-fifth of the world's crude oil supply passing through it. Tensions in the region have been high since Trump's decision to withdraw the US from the Iran nuclear deal and reimpose sanctions on the country.
In a statement, Trump said, "We don't want their oil, but we protect their ships. Why is that? And other than that, we have a very good relationship with Iran." The president's comments came after Iran vowed to respond forcefully to any attack on its oil infrastructure, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies.
