Tensions Remain High in Strait of Hormuz as Shipping Crawls

Despite a ceasefire between the US and Iran, shipping traffic in the critical Strait of Hormuz remains at a trickle as the two nations continue to spar over control of the vital waterway.
Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain high as shipping traffic through the critical waterway continues to move at a glacial pace, despite a supposed ceasefire between the United States and Iran. President Trump has accused Tehran of failing to live up to its end of the agreement to reopen the strait to international maritime traffic.
The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, is one of the world's most strategically important shipping chokepoints. It is a crucial conduit for global oil supplies, with around 20% of the world's crude oil and petroleum products transported through its narrow channels each day. The disruption of traffic through the strait would have severe ramifications for the global economy.
